PONTEFRACT PERCUSSION GROUP!

The group class will run for 5 weeks, one evening per week, starting Thursday 2nd February, 7.00 – 9.00.

At the end of the course, after a week gap, the group will have the chance to perform a show in the centre of Pontefract and ‘infect’ others to the rhythm and excitement we will all bring! The show will take place on Saturday 10th March at midday and we’ll agree a location during the course.

Fees: If you are paying on each night, the fees will be £12 per night. If instead you pay for the whole project in advance, your total fees will be £50.

Please send the fees for either you’re first evening (if you pay each time) or for the whole course (if you pay in advance for the whole course) to the address you find at the bottom of the program.

Course Program:

In our group/ classes we will learn about:

Samba Reggae

The Samba Reggae music movement from Brazil started in 1970 in Salvador and is still going very strong to this day. The rhythm comes from Africa. Samba Reggae is more laid back then the Samba from Rio de Janeiro. References for Samba Reggae groups in Brazil: Timbalada, Olodum, Ile Aye.

Ijexa

Ijexa is a rhythm from Bahia, an easy combination of the word AFOXE that means Festa (Party). At parties the most common rhythm is Ijexa. The rhythm is very popular in much music composed for carnival.

Baiao

Is the principal rhythm for the music played in Sao Joao.  The Baiao music is played with 4 instruments e.g.: Sanfona (Accordion) Zabumba (A Flat drum played with a mallet and thin stick).  The term FORRO is given to the situation as the word FORRO comes from FOR ALL, music for EVERYBODY.

Funk

This is a music genre that originated in the mid-late 1960s when African American musicians created soul music. In Brazil we play the rhythm only using percussion. Some people in Brazil also play music called Funk de Lata. This means ‘Play Funk in Tins and Cans’ or anything they could find in the streets and skips.

TUTOR:

Claudio Kron do Brazil is a Musician, Percussionist, Poet and Composer from Bahia, based in UK since 1996. He has devoted his life to the Afro-Brazilian indigenous culture and tradition. As a percussionist, Claudio has traveled the world, both performing and teaching: UK, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana, Korea, using organic instruments and percussion such as Congas, Berimbau, Atabaque, Pandeiro, Djembe, to name a few.  Claudio’s performances have included Commonwealth Games, Brits Awards, Barbican Centre, Notting Hill Carnival, Leeds Carnival, Huddersfield Carnival, Barnsely Civic Centre and Halifax Square Chapel.

DREAMING WITH THE HORSES

You are invited to our experimental meetings, on the beautiful hills surrounding Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, to experience how our individual dreams inter-weave with the collective dreams and how the horses, with their presence and sensitivity, might guide us to the themes that are emerging, dream with us,  move and create unexpected learning with us all.

Our meetings continue to fill us with wonder and leave us with plenty of gentle, unexpected gifts.

COME AND  EXPERIMENT WITH US

NEXT DATE TO BE CONFIRMED

….The Horses Are On A Winter Break…

GET IN TOUCH FOR INFORMATION AND DIRECTIONS!

We ask for a £10 contribution per person on the day.

Social Dreaming, or Dream Matrix – as it has also been called – was ‘discovered’ by W.Gordon Lawrence between the 70′s and the 80′s, but it’s in fact an archaic practice, where individual dreams are considered, used and shared as a resource for the entire community as well as for the dreamer. Recent social dream work is based on the fundamental idea - portrayed within different schools of thinking, each stressing particular aspects – that individual dreams also contain ‘information’ about the social group surrounding the individual and about what is trying to emerge and be ‘digested’ by both, useful information that can be found beyond what we think, speak and know consciously.

The Dreamer’s world and the Others’ world exist together.

Our group will involve the participation of  horses to facilitate this experience.

Just bring a dream, current or past, that you are happy to share with others.

Note: No previous knowledge is required and we pay attention to creating a safe environment, but you will need to have some familiarity with working on your awareness of yourself as this experience can be stirring.

Email us via the contact form or via Unbridled Potential if you want to participate.  It would be kind to let us know  by the Friday preceding each meeting, as it takes some preparation for us and the horses to reach and set up the space on the day. However if you decide last minute, give us a call then – to make sure it’s all set!
